The new year marks a new release for Southampton outfit Our Time Down Here, in the form of EP Last Light. 2009’s Live, Love, Let Go was a record full of youthful exuberance, bounds of energy, and a really catchy stab in the side of the UK hardcore scene.
Today’s Our Time Down Here couldn’t sound any more different; the quintet have taken a step back from an in-your-face approach and have seemed to focus their efforts more on crafting great singalongs than short sharp bursts of energetic pleasure. Tracks like A Paper Ring and Cloud Of Dust still bring the repeated snares and gang vox, but the former still manages to plod with a charm, despite being just over a minute long.
Vocalist Will Gould‘s vocal chords get a fine test in the likes of highlight Tiny Teeth, which shows just how far the band have came, with nods to the likes of Bayside or Alkaline Trio more of a recurring theme these days.
Where one fan may prefer his hardcore fast paced and edgy, this might disappoint, but on the other hand, the many fans this record is surely going to open up to for the band, is arguably a great sacrifice. Our Time Down Here have stepped back, grown up as a band and let their music do the talking – a very strong progression and a brilliant piece of work!
